When was the last time you walked through the grass barefoot? Or through the sand at the beach? Immersing yourself in ocean water? There is an unmatched sensation we experience when physically connecting with nature. It’s physical, it’s mental, it’s everything in one. So, let’s back up and talk about balance.
Balance is about managing various elements to create homeostasis. We can help our bodies achieve better balance by Sleeping Tight, Eating Right, Easing Stress, and Getting Active, Finding Purpose & Connecting.
What is Grounding?
Grounding is more generally about rooting yourself in the present and connecting with the moment and environment you’re in. It’s a combination of mental and emotional techniques to help regulate yourself and provide you with a sense of freedom, connectedness and control.
Grounding can also be referred to as “earthing”, referring to its key component, connecting you to the earth. It’s based on the premise that physical connection and interaction with the earth may also provide therapeutic benefit for us. Research is focused around the healing benefits of naturally occurring electrical conductivity.
“Multi-disciplinary research has revealed that electrically conductive contact of the human body with the surface of the Earth (grounding or earthing) produces intriguing effects on physiology and health. Such effects relate to inflammation, immune responses, wound healing, and prevention and treatment of chronic inflammatory and autoimmune diseases.”¹
How to Get Grounded
1. Physical Grounding
Research is building to support that not only are we lacking in physical connection to the earth, but that increasing our time in nature can actually improve our health in a variety of areas. Studies on earthing have included ailments such as inflammation, chronic pain, sleep improvement, PMS, energy, blood pressure, normalization of our biological rhythms, and more. Some ideas for your next weekend outing (kids included!):
- Barefoot beach time
- Ground yourself in the grass
- Find a forest
- Swim in the ocean
2. Grounding Meditation
Now, you’ve created the setting. While grounding yourself in a natural environment, take note of your physical and mental state and follow a simple meditative practice to help center you.
Most meditations are focused on mantras or awareness exercises. To keep it simple, start by paying attention to your breathing, and taking deep inhales and exhales. You can totally do this with the kiddos (for brief periods). Then, notice the sensations in your toes, your body, your emotions. There’s no right way to meditate. The goal is to get in a flow state with yourself, and to keep flexing the tools that regulate our body and mind.
3. Work With The Earth
Gardening is an excellent and sustainable way to connect with nature regularly and with purpose. Gardening blends physical activity with exposure to nature and sunlight (natural Vitamin D!). Building physical strength, spending time outdoors, committing to a healthy habit, and even adopting a more sustainable nutritional lifestyle in the process can be a great next practice to develop.
We especially love working with the kids in the garden. The learning opportunities are endless, and it keeps us busy and engaged as a family in a wonderful way.
4. Enhance Your Daily Wellbeing With Hemp Extract Oil
We call hemp extract oil the great balancer, because it naturally interacts with our endocannabinoid systems to produce homeostatic effects in the body, across various systems. Hemp extract oil has been used for stress-relief, mood management, pain management, sleep support, and more. Set your body up for better balance overall when you incorporate hemp extract oil into your daily routines and especially before a session with nature.
As an added bonus to give back to nature just a bit of what it gives to us, we at Helpsies are proud to plant one tree for every bottle sold. We also love to combine the power of our G’Day or No’Wo hemp with our own natural excursions.
Go, go go!
We could use a bit of help sometimes to calm the overwhelm, take the edge off aches and pains, and if we’re lucky, get a restful night’s sleep. Helpsies Hemp Extract Oil may give you the balance and boost you need to alleviate symptoms so you can feel your best and commit to your root cause resolution and to habits such as grounding/earthing alone, with friends, or with the family! We’d love to hear if you’ve had experience with grounding, and what your next grounding moment will be! Follow us on social media– we love engaging with our community!
