Band-aid Medicine.
It’s the practice of treating symptoms rather than diagnosing and focusing on the root cause. It’s natural for us to focus on solving immediate symptoms so we can feel better now. What we tend to see with palliative treatment is that symptoms recur or return in other forms.
For example- if you have recurring headaches, it’s typical to take ibuprofen, which can immediately relieve pain.
But if the headache is a result of sleep deprivation, hormonal imbalance, inflammation, dietary sensitivities, or more, then the headaches will keep coming, and you might also do some damage to your gut or liver with repeated use of painkillers.
As busy mums, we could use a bit of help sometimes to calm the overwhelm, take the edge of aches and pains, and if we’re lucky, get a restful night’s sleep. Helpsies Hemp Extract Oil may give you the balance and boost you need to alleviate symptoms so you can feel your best and commit to your root cause resolution.
What is Root Cause Resolution?
In functional medicine, root cause resolution is a key principle in achieving long-term relief from whatever might be ailing you. Root cause resolution is all about finding the primary cause of your symptoms. That requires a bit of deeper digging to discover any imbalances or deficiencies that can be addressed.
It involves balancing all of our 4-Pillars of Health. The underlying cause often lies in one or more of these areas:
Sleep
Mums know sleep can become a rare commodity, so we cherish it more than ever. Sleep deprivation can result in immediate effects such as next-day grogginess, decreased productivity, irritability, and the tendency to overcompensate with coffee, over-the-counter (OTC) painkillers, and more. Long-term effects include cardiovascular impact, mental health challenges, adrenal exhaustion and a whole host of other issues that ultimately results in poor health outcomes.
Start by tracking your sleep quality for one week. You can do this in a journal, but if you have a smartwatch you may get even more data. You’ll want to know how many hours you sleep per night, how many wakeups, how long it takes to fall asleep, how you feel immediately in the morning, and how you feel the next day.

Stress
It’s okay not to always feel okay. Stress is a natural response. Too much of it can result in chronic physical and mental symptoms, and may also be a result of a root-cause issues and imbalances within our bodies.
The good news, mums, is that we’re not subject to the wrath of our emotions all day every day. Simple, practical habits help us manage the frazzle and reduce the overwhelm.
Your thought patterns affect your stress levels, so next time you’re feeling overwhelmed, stop for a moment to assess the situation. Take a breath, and reframe. We’ll be sharing some bite-size tutorials on TikTok soon for better mind management.

Nutrition
Us mums have a lot on our plate, often including the proper, consistent sustenance of our entire family. We love including our kids in the process of mindful food planning & prep. It keeps us all responsible, connected, and informed.
Food is much more powerful than most of us think. Food is fuel, medicine, and much more. The quality we input is also the quality of life and energy we experience as output. Food can heal, and it can harm. We’ve seen people embark on incredible transformations by making small but impactful changes to their diet. We’ll be offering a 30-Day Reset to jump-start your journey and nourish your body at its optimum. Stay tuned!
Exercise
Some of you may already be in your fitness routine, and for others it may feel impossible. Physical activity is one of the most incredible natural “drugs” we have, changing the levels of endorphins, neurotransmitters, and stress hormones.
For an exercise routine to stick, it has to float your boat and mesh well into your life.
We love to exercise with our bubs. Whether we’re doing mums and bubs morning yoga, forest bathing, or walking on the beach barefoot (grounding), we try to get in our physical fun each day, especially when there’s sunshine.
Bonus Pillar: Purpose and Connection
More than ever, COVID-19 has reminded us how vital it is to feel connected with the people and ideas we care about.
We love seeing how many people have become more aware and active in groups and movements holding shared beliefs. For example, Helpsies supports the regeneration of Australia’s forests by planting 1 Tree for Every Bottle Sold. We connected with an organisation we believe in called One Tree Planted and found our way to give back with purpose.
More than anything, people bring purpose. We like to make sure mealtime is also about family connection with the kids. When you need to just breathe and bond, schedule an extra hour or 2 a week with your extended family, your friends, or even more one-on-one time with the hubby.
Balancing Our 4 Pillars of Wellness
We can help our bodies achieve homeostasis (balance) by Sleeping Tight, Eating Right, Easing Stress, Getting Active, Finding Purpose & Connecting. It seems like a lot, but we all can do with some adjustments in one or more of these areas to start feeling better.
You may already have an idea of which areas can use a bit more balance, and a functional doctor can navigate you through a simple diagnostic process to help you get to know yourself and your roots better so your symptoms don’t keep coming back.
The human body is self-healing and self-regulating and hemp extract oil can provide balance support the body’s innate healing process and treat symptoms as you solve the root cause. In some cases, the overall anti-inflammatory, anti-anxiety, anti-seizure benefits of hemp extract oil may also contribute to root cause treatment as well.
